HIPAA & Privacy

Your privacy is important to us.

All records and information pertaining to your healthcare are treated as confidential. Montgomery Cancer Center has policies in place to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, use or disclosure.

  • Only authorized individuals have access to a patient's medical record.
  • When our staff members interview or examine patients, every effort is made to afford the patient with reasonable audio and visual privacy.
  • Discretion is used when leaving messages on telephone answering machines or fax machines.
  • Family household members, even close relatives, may not obtain copies of a patient's medical record without the appropriate and necessary authorization.
  • You have the right to request correction of any potential inaccuracy in your medical record.
  • We adhere to the federal guidelines defined by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), detailed below.

To protect your privacy, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) recognizes your right to:

  • ask to see and get a copy of your health records
  • have corrections or additions made to your health information
  • receive a notice that tells you how your health information is used and shared
  • decide whether to give your permission before your information can be used or shared for certain purposes
  • get a report on when and why your health information was shared
  • ask to be reached somewhere other than home
  • ask that your information not be shared
  • file complaints
